Well pumps are designed to draw water past the motor when running. Overheating problems are largely due to failing to install the pump as per the manufacturer's specifications. Pump manufacturers list cooling requirements which specify a minimum water flow over the motor to achieve proper cooling.

The flow sleeve forces the water flow over the motor, creating the correct amount of cooling needed for the motor. Ideal uses are when submerged pumps are installed in storage tank, lakes, cisterns, ponds, water wells, and aeration systems.
